KBC's Woods to chair 2019 SBC Resolutions CommitteeBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- Kentucky Baptist leader Curtis Woods has been named chairman of the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention Resolutions Committee, SBC President J.D. Greear announced today (Jan. 22).
Greear also announced his appointment of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary vice president Keith Whitfield as vice chairman.

Pastors' Conf.: MacDonald out, Andrew Brunson addedBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- Chicago pastor James MacDonald has withdrawn from his speaking slot at the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention Pastors' Conference in Birmingham, Ala., conference president Danny Wood announced Dec. 17.
Meanwhile, Andrew Brunson, the American pastor released this fall from imprisonment in Turkey, has been added to the June 9-10 lineup of speakers, the Pastors' Conference announced in late November. Brunson will preach from Matthew 5:10 -- "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs."
Wood said via Twitter that MacDonald, pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago, "contacted me personally to say he is stepping away from all outside speaking engagements for a season (including Pastors Conference 2019). 2019 SBC Annual Meeting theme announced by GreearBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- The supremacy of the Gospel will motivate Southern Baptist Convention President J. D. Greear as he leads Baptists to evangelize, plant churches, and mobilize college students for the Kingdom, he said in announcing his theme for the 2019 SBC annual meeting.
Greear stated his theme as "Gospel Above All" and expressed that he will reflect on the Gospel "again and again" during his term.
"It is the Gospel that is the source of our renewal, and it is the Gospel that should be our defining characteristic as a people," Greear said in his first presidential address to the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee at its fall meeting. SBC 2019 Pastors' Conf. names speakers, themeBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- The 2019 Pastors' Conference has announced eight of the speakers for its Birmingham meeting June 9-10 in advance of the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting, with other names expected soon.

NAMB, Ala. Baptists plan for Crossover in BirminghamBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- With eight months until Crossover 2019, Birmingham-area Southern Baptists are looking to build upon a record number of faith commitments last year.
Although specific plans have not been finalized, the North American Mission Board is partnering with seven Alabama Baptist associations in the effort. SBC 2019 online hotel registration opens Oct. 12BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- Online hotel registration for the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting will open Oct. 12 instead of Oct. 1 as in previous years, the SBC Executive Committee has announced.
Changes in hotel room availability near the meeting site, the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC), necessitate the delay, the EC said. Greear tightens SBC Birmingham scheduleNASHVILLE (BP) -- Southern Baptist Convention President J.D. Greear announced via Twitter that next year's SBC annual meeting in Birmingham, Ala., will not include any evening sessions.
The announcement came the same week the SBC Executive Committee released data indicating a growing role for digital media in conjunction with this year's SBC annual meeting in Dallas.
