IMB presidential nominations accepted through May 15RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- The International Mission Board's Presidential Search Committee announced today (April 12) it is accepting nominations for the Southern Baptist entity's next president.
The committee, chaired by Chuck Pourciau, senior pastor of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, La., said in a statement they will accept nominations through May 15 by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Read More
LMCO gifts 4.4% ahead of last spring's receiptsRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Southern Baptists' contributions to support international missions through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering are 4.4 percent ahead of last year's pace, according to a report by Rodney Freeman, IMB treasurer and vice president of support services.
At the end of March 2018, IMB had received $124,093,278 for the 2017-2018 campaign, which began Oct. 1 and continues through Sept. 30. The total is $5,225,589 (4.4 percent) ahead of LMCO receipts at this point last year. Read More
Greear, Hemphill rally prayer, civility amid transitionsNASHVILLE (BP) -- Amid two Southern Baptist Convention entity leadership searches and upcoming national SBC elections, both SBC presidential candidates have issued a joint call for prayer, grace and civility.
J.D. Greear and Ken Hemphill, both tapped as 2018 nominees for SBC president, made the joint appeal as the International Mission Board (IMB) and the SBC Executive Committee (EC) are tasked with finding new entity leaders. IMB missionaries 'died for what matters most'RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- International Mission Board missionaries Randy Arnett, 62, and Kathy Arnett, 61, died March 14 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Missouri-native missionaries served as theological education strategists for Africa.
IMB leaders and colleagues reflected on the Missouri-native missionaries' love for missions and the people of Africa.

IMB trustees name presidential search committeeRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- The International Mission Board began the search for a successor to David Platt to lead the SBC entity during their Feb. 28-March 1 meeting in the Richmond, Va., area.
Platt, the mission board's president, reiterated his desire that the 173-year-old Southern Baptist entity stay on course for taking the Gospel to the world's darkest, hardest-to-reach places. To that end, IMB trustees approved the appointment of 20 new fulltime, fully funded missionaries.
Trustee chairman Rick Dunbar named a 16-person committee to find Platt's replacement. Read More
IMB appoints 20 new missionaries to the nationsRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Omar Loza accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in his home country of Peru, and then he shared the Gospel with his friends and family. A few years after reading that God wants believers to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth, he visited an Andean town.
"I saw Aymara people worshipping God in their own language and culture," he said. "God put in my heart a desire to see many different people groups worshiping Him."
Omar's wife Tia said she also has known she wanted to make Christ known to others since she surrendered her own life to the Lord's leadership. The Lozas of La Respuesta-Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., plan to serve God in the Americas. WRAP-UP: EC considers DC convention, mission board mergerNASHVILLE (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee has given the District of Columbia Baptist Convention (DCBC) 90 days to "secure" the "the removal of any churches from its fellowship that have demonstrated a faith or practice affirming, approving or endorsing homosexual behavior," according to a recommendation adopted by the EC Feb. 20.
If such churches remain in friendly cooperation with the DCBC after that period, the DCBC will lose its authorization "to receive and disburse Cooperative Program and other SBC contributions," the EC stated during its Feb. 19-20 meetings in Nashville. Read More
David Platt to transition out of IMB presidencyRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- David Platt has announced plans to transition out of his role as president of the International Mission Board but will continue to serve until a new president is selected.
Platt told trustees, missionaries and staff today (Feb. 12) that during his nearly four-year tenure at the IMB, he has been "burdened to continue preaching and leading in the local church," which led to assuming a teaching pastor role at McLean Bible Church in Northern Virginia, alongside his leadership of the IMB.
