  • 2 new movies screened to SBC attendees

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- LifeWay Films hosted a screening of two films during the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Dallas.

    SBC messengers and guests had the opportunity to view "Unbroken: Path to Redemption," the sequel to the 2014 feature film Unbroken, and "Indivisible," a film based on the true story of Army Chaplain Darren Turner and his wife Heather.

    Bill Craig, director of publishing at LifeWay, introduced Unbroken: Path to Redemption to a packed house of attendees on June 11.

    He spoke about how Will Graham, grandson of the late evangelist Billy Graham, portrayed his grandfather in the movie. They were set to see an early screening of the movie with Graham the week the elder Graham died. Read More

    DALLAS (BP) -- Is our denomination dying?

    That was the question posed at the LifeWay Christian Resources breakfast attended by 1,100 registered guests during the 2018 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas.

    Attendees may have been surprised to hear LifeWay President Thom S. Rainer say yes, the Southern Baptist Convention is dying. But they also heard him lay out hope for the future of the SBC as well as for local churches that also may be in decline. Read More

    DALLAS (BP) -- LifeWay Christian Resources has begun giving away Bibles to help churches share the Word of God, LifeWay President and CEO Thom S. Rainer told messengers at the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Dallas.

    "One of the best investments we have ever made has no immediate financial return but an incredible eternal return," Rainer said during his report on Wednesday (June 13).

    "We are handing out the Word of God, through churches, and we are seeing numbers upon numbers of people believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Only God could do that." Read More

  • Free Bibles? LifeWay launches effort to spur evangelism

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- This summer, thousands of Bibles will ring up for free at the registers of LifeWay Christian Stores.

    It's an effort by LifeWay to help local churches take the Word of God into their communities through an initiative called "Share the Word. Together."

    Churches of any denomination within 15 miles of a LifeWay store can sign up for a designated week in which each member of the church can visit the local LifeWay to pick up a free CSB personal gift Bible. Church members will then give the Bibles away in their communities. Read More

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (BP) -- A triennial gathering involving hundreds of collegiate ministry workers "inspires us to go back to our campus with new ideas and a fresh take on things," said Arkansas campus minister Dawn Reed.

    That's why she returned to LifeWay Christian Resources' Collegiate Summit, hosted this year May 2-4 by First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tenn.

    Collegiate Summit featured plenary addresses, networking opportunities and breakout sessions on issues facing college ministers.     NASHVILLE (BP) -- LifeWay Christian Resources is ranked as one of the top 500 midsize employers in the U.S. by Forbes magazine for a second consecutive year.

    LifeWay landed at No. 196 on the "America's Best Midsize Employers" list. The Christian publishing house and retail organization drew high marks from its employees. To determine the ranking, Forbes looks at how likely workers are to recommend their employer to someone else and how they feel about the other employers in their industry. Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Randy Parks remembers the music, the games, and the wacky events from the first summer he attended Centrifuge in 1979. But most of all, he remembers the clear message of the Gospel and the strong conviction that a life following Christ was exciting and worth living.

    The focus of the LifeWay breakfast will be "Is Our Denomination Dying?" LifeWay President and CEO Thom S. Rainer will lead a discussion and question-and-answer session about the future of the SBC in a season of tremendous change and how churches can realize a bright future of evangelistic growth.
