  WASHINGTON (BP) -- Evangelical Christians primarily have the Gospel to offer within a pro-life movement that should transcend politics in what will be a battle far into the future, Southern Baptist ethicist Russell Moore said Jan. 23 on the eve of the March for Life.

  WASHINGTON (BP) -- A historian, an ethicist and a pastor -- all Baptists -- displayed a difference of opinion on the usefulness of the word "evangelical" and the state of evangelicalism in an Oct. 29 conversation at the Museum of the Bible.

  NASHVILLE (BP) -- Most American evangelicals believe Jesus' Golden Rule -- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" -- applies to politics. Some, however, see the political realm leading up to the 2020 elections as no place for niceness, according to a new study.

  VIENNA, Va. (BP)-- Human dignity and Gospel mission should characterize the Christian voice at a time when people are treated like machines, Southern Baptist ethicist Russell Moore said at Evangelicals for Life Thursday (Jan. 17).

  Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, opened the second day of the annual conference sponsored by the ERLC. The two-day event at McLean Bible Church in Vienna, Va., a suburb of Washington, D.C., continued with a full day of addresses, panel discussions and breakout sessions on such topics as abortion, adoption, disability, racial unity, immigration, Christian persecution and criminal justice reform.

  The opening session of the fourth annual conference -- sponsored by the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission -- featured a concert by Steven Curtis Chapman to benefit the Psalm 139 Project, the ERLC's ministry to help place ultrasound machines in pregnancy resource centers across the country.   WASHINGTON (BP) -- Southern Baptist-sponsored Evangelicals for Life 2019 has expanded its schedule and added two leading couples from the modern Christian music world and a well-known preacher/author to the program.

  Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman, Keith and Kristyn Getty, and David Platt will appear at the fourth annual EFL conference, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) announced Nov. 8 in an email to registrants. The ERLC, host of EFL, also disclosed the conference will begin a day earlier, Jan. 16, than previously scheduled. Read More

• Evangelical poll tallies two-thirds as independents

  WASHINGTON (BP) -- Most leaders of the National Association of Evangelicals identified as independents in an NAE poll preceding the 2018 U.S. midterm elections, the group said Oct. 31.

  Two-thirds of those surveyed, 66 percent, described themselves as independents rather than a member of a major political party in the NAE poll of its 106-member board of directors, the NAE said. While the sampling is narrow and not scientific, the NAE said the results "track with" those of a 2017 Gallup poll of the general U.S. population. Read More
