  NASHVILLE (BP) -- D. August "Augie" Boto has announced he will retire from the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee effective Sept. 30.

  Boto, the EC's executive vice president and general counsel, notified EC President and CEO Ronnie Floyd of his retirement in a July 18 letter.

  His retirement brings his service "full circle," Boto told Baptist Press, having joined the EC as a member in 1995, the same year Floyd began his 1995-1997 service as EC chairman. Read More

  BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- The chairman and vice chairman of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee were unanimously reelected during the EC's June 10 meeting in Birmingham, Ala.

  Resolutions of appreciation were approved for two SBC entity presidents, Chuck Kelley of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, who retires July 31, and Thom Rainer of LifeWay Christian Resources, who retired on Feb. 28 and for D.   BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee will consider in June revising its proposed constitutional amendment on sex abuse and racism, and may recommend a new standing committee to assess claims of misconduct against churches.

  In a cooperative effort, the SBC Bylaws Workgroup drafted the revisions, EC officers provided input and various leaders reviewed them, expressly SBC President J.D.   NASHVILLE (BP) -- Ronnie Floyd called Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee staff members to spiritual, professional and personal discipline Tuesday (May 28) in Nashville, pledging to give himself fully to his new calling as the SBC EC president and CEO.

  "I came here to do more with the Gospel and for the Gospel than I've ever done in my life," Floyd said in his first full meeting with staff since his arrival May 20.   FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (BP) -- Ronnie Floyd called them "holy moments." The senior pastor of Cross Church for nearly 33 years, Floyd preached his final sermon May 19 and commissioned his son Nick as his successor.

  "Pastor Nick and my son, even as [the apostle] Paul knelt and he prayed, I put my hands in your hands today as a sign and a symbol to our people that God is transferring this to you," Floyd said as both he and his son knelt before Cross Church's combined congregations at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Ark.   NASHVILLE (BP) -- Ronnie Floyd, who will assume office as president/CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee on May 20, has named Ed Upton as assistant to the president.

  Upton, 38, has been president of the Cross Church School of Ministry in northwest Arkansas since May 2017. He served as campus pastor for Cross Church's campus in Neosho, Mo., from 2015-2017. Read More

  NASHVILLE (BP) -- Arkansas pastor and former Southern Baptist Convention president Ronnie Floyd will be recommended for the presidency of the SBC Executive Committee, the EC's presidential search committee announced March 31.

  The full EC will consider Floyd's nomination Tuesday, April 2, at a special called meeting in Dallas to begin at 11 a.m. Central at the Grand Hyatt at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.   DALLAS (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee will hold a special called meeting in Dallas April 2 to vote on a presidential nominee, EC chairman Mike Stone announced today (March 19).

  The EC's presidential search committee "has confirmed a nominee," Stone said in an email to the full EC. The nominee's name will be announced March 31. Read More
