NASHVILLE (BP) -- Los bautistas del sur enfrentan "días desafiantes" con las donaciones al Programa Cooperativo, les dijo el presidente del Comité Ejecutivo de la CBS, Frank Page a los miembros del comité en Nashville, al expresar esperanza por un alza en las donaciones.
Al compartir su pasión por el PC y su papel en sostener las misiones y los ministerios alrededor del globo, Page dijo que el ímpetu para el "Reto 1% PC " continúa creciendo para que las iglesias aumenten sus donaciones al PC en un punto de 1 por ciento de su presupuesto.
"He escrito cartas personales a casi 3.000 pastores agradeciéndoles su involucramiento" en el Reto 1% PC, dijo Page el 17 de febrero. "Nuestros ejecutivos estatales están diciendo: 'Frank, por favor no pare…' No pararemos.
"Es mi pasión lo que aviva mi corazón a creer en esto," dijo Page. "Apoyé esto antes de ser pagado para apoyarlo. Como pastor apoyé fuertemente más del 10 por ciento de los recibos no designados para el Programa Cooperativo."
Dar a través del PC es la mejor manera de "concurrente, consistente y, sí, completamente llevar a cabo Hechos 1:8 como iglesia local, añadió. "A través de eso, ustedes están involucrados en misiones y ministerios en todo el mundo, todo el tiempo."
Las donaciones filantrópicas han incrementado en años recientes, y el 53 por ciento de las iglesias dicen que las donaciones han incrementado, reportó Page. A pesar del incremento en las donaciones en otras áreas, las donaciones al PC han continuado decreciendo a través de los años. En los últimos cinco años, las ofrendas al PC reenviadas por las iglesias han bajado en un 11 por ciento.
"En 1982, el promedio que las iglesias bautistas del sur reenviaron fue de 10.7 por ciento de sus recibos no designados al Programa Cooperativo," dijo Page. "Pero en 2012 bajó a 5.41 por ciento. Es bastante el declive de dos décimas de un porciento cada año."
Un punto positivo potencial, dijo Page, es que el actual 5.41 por ciento se ha mantenido desde 2012, un posible indicador de que el Reto PC está comenzando a resonar más en las iglesias.
"Oramos que [la disminución] haya cesado y ahora vaya para atrás," dijo Page. "Esa es nuestra esperanza y oración. Hemos estado poniendo mucha energía y esfuerzo, particularmente tratando de engarzar a ministros jóvenes y ministerios no involucrados, es decir, 'Los retamos a ustedes a estudiarlo, mirarlo… ¿Pueden encontrar otra mejor forma de estar involucrado en Hechos 1:8?'"
