  INDIANAPOLIS (BP) -- Some 7,000 evangelicals -- including a significant contingent of Southern Baptists -- gathered around an evangelism theme at The Gospel Coalition's National Conference April 1-3 in Indianapolis.

  The eight keynote speakers included at least three Southern Baptists while employees of Southern Baptist Convention entities spoke at breakout sessions and ancillary events. LifeWay Christian Resources hosted a conference bookstore, and at least eight SBC entities, including four seminaries, were represented in the exhibit hall. Read More

  INDIANAPOLIS (BP) -- Some 8,500 people -- including a significant contingent of Southern Baptists -- celebrated the Protestant Reformation's 500th anniversary at The Gospel Coalition's National Conference April 3-5 in Indianapolis.

  Five centuries after Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany, the meeting featured sermons on each chapter of the biblical book Galatians as well as historical addresses on key Reformation figures. More than a dozen conference workshops also explored Reformation themes, including the movement's missionary legacy and why Reformation leaders weren't more united. Read More

(BP) -- Building strong relationships with churches and their pastors is key to communicating to Southern Baptists the growing need for their support of child care services, Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, told members of Baptist Coalition for Children and Families (BCCF) gathered for the organization's 68th annual meeting.

  WASHINGTON (BP) -- American Christians overwhelmingly support government regulation of the predatory lending industry, Southern Baptists and other religious leaders in a Faith for Just Lending Coalition said Wednesday (April 13).

  Coalition members, in a telephone news conference, pointed to online survey results by LifeWay Research that 86 percent of self-identified Christians in 30 states believe laws and regulations should bar loans at "excessive interest rates." Read More

  WASHINGTON (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission has helped launch a religious coalition seeking an end to the predatory loan industry.

  The ERLC joined with other religious organizations Thursday (May 14) to announce the Faith for Just Lending Coalition at a Capitol Hill news conference. The diverse alliance that includes Baptists, other evangelical Christians and mainline Protestants seeks to raise awareness about predatory lending and to motivate individuals, lenders, churches and the government to help bring an end to the practice.
