    DEEP SOUTH TEXAS (BP) -- Disaster relief volunteers are responding to flooding and power outages in the wake of Hurricane Hanna, which dumped up to 16 inches of rain in deep south Texas after it struck the area Saturday (July 25).

    No deaths have been reported in Texas, but FOX News reported Tuesday that at least two people in Mexico were killed amid flooding from torrential rains as the category 1 hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm and continued south. Read More

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Christians fleeing religious persecution abroad are increasingly denied access to safety in the U.S., according to a new report urging the Trump administration to reverse the trend.

    The U.S. is on track to accept 90 percent fewer Christian refugees in 2020 than five years earlier from countries where Christians are most persecuted, and is considering changes to eligibility requirements for asylum seekers that would drastically reduce their entry here, Open Doors USA and World Relief said in its joint report released today (July 10).     SAN DIEGO (BP) -- One number will break the heart of anyone who cares about one of the most vulnerable populations in San Diego. According to North American Mission Board (NAMB) missionary Austin Blanton, 80 percent of the city's foster families decide to return children within the first four months. Many will never take part in foster care again.

    MIDLAND, Mich. (BP) -- Historic flooding in middle Michigan during the COVID-19 pandemic presents challenges for Baptist State Convention of Michigan (BSCM) disaster relief.

    As the BSCM mobilizes flood response teams, feeding units, damage assessors and chaplains, BSCM state disaster relief director Bob Kiger says some volunteers might find the work too risky. Most volunteers are retirees in the age group most vulnerable to the coronavirus. Read More

    HOUSTON (BP) -- Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) leaders and volunteers continue meeting needs and sharing the hope of the Gospel in response both to the ongoing pandemic and to natural disasters in their communities. The challenges presented by COVID-19 have necessitated adjustments, but SBDR has sought to ensure a continued presence and continued service.

    ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP) -- As COVID-19 started becoming a global pandemic, Send Relief staff began making preparations around the world to serve communities they knew would be hit hard by the medical and economic impact of the virus.

    Missionaries and volunteers in North America have helped distribute nearly 50,000 various types of personal protection equipment to medical facilities and provided more than 66,000 meals in New York City, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Puerto Rico, as well as thousands of care packages for healthcare workers and first responders.
