  • Pro-lifers call out potential sex-abuse cover-ups

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.(BP) -- While members of Congress call for an investigation of Planned Parenthood for failing to report the suspected sexual abuse of minors, pro-life activists and two U.S. congressmen from Indiana are confronting matters in their own state.

    Indiana Right to Life announced the filing of 48 consumer complaints against nine Indiana abortionists who allegedly failed to follow state reporting laws regarding abortions they performed on girls under the age of 16 (and as young as 12). The law requires abortionists to report such abortions to the Indiana State Department of Health and the Department of Child Services within three days of the procedure.

    "The doctors' failures to indicate this step was taken demonstrate that they may have violated the law, possibly deliberately, and thereby possibly allowed for the continuation of abuse," wrote U.S. Reps. Jim Banks and Todd Rokita in a letter to Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill. The two congressmen urged Hill to investigate. Read More

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Southern Baptist ethicist Russell Moore and other pro-life leaders applauded news that the Trump administration will propose a new rule that would eliminate family planning funds for abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

    The Department of Health and Human Services planned to announce later today (May 18) a regulation that would bar Planned Parenthood and other organizations that perform or refer for abortions from receiving federal money through the Title X family planning program, according to news reports.     WASHINGTON (BP) -- Pro-life advocates hope a new U.S. Department of Justice investigation into Planned Parenthood marks a turning point for the nation's largest abortion provider.

    On Thursday (Dec. 17), the Justice Department requested unredacted documents from the Senate Judiciary Committee, indicating it has launched a formal investigation into Planned Parenthood. In 2016, both the Judiciary Committee and The House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives did their own investigations into the abortion industry and fetal procurement businesses. Both panels referred Planned Parenthood to the FBI at the end of 2016 for illegally profiting from fetal tissue sales. Read More

  • Trump signs bill enabling states to defund PPFA

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- President Trump signed legislation today (April 13) that once again enables states to withhold federal family planning funds from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

    Trump's action overturned a rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in December, only five weeks before President Obama left office. Many pro-life advocates perceived the HHS regulation, which effectively barred states from prohibiting Title X funds for abortion clinics, as a parting gift from Obama to the abortion industry.     WASHINGTON (BP) -- The U.S. Senate approved repeal of a pro-Planned Parenthood rule by the slimmest of margins Thursday (March 30) in an action that twice required Vice President Mike Pence to break a tie.

    Pence's decisive votes -- first to bring the proposal to the Senate floor and then to pass it -- broke 50-50 roll calls and provided final action by Congress to reverse an Obama administration regulation. The rule in question effectively bars states from prohibiting funds for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.     WASHINGTON (BP) -- Planned Parenthood's rejection of a White House offer to maintain federal funding if it drops its abortion business demonstrates how important the lethal procedure is to the organization, Southern Baptist leaders said.

    The informal proposal and the refusal -- reported March 6 by The New York Times -- came as Congress and President Trump consider legislation to cut funds for the country's scandal-plagued, leading abortion provider. Both a budget bill and a new health-care replacement measure proposed in the House of Representatives would slash funds for Planned Parenthood, which receives more than $500 million annually in government grants and reimbursements.     WASHINGTON (BP) -- Texas is the latest state to suffer a judicial setback in its effort to eliminate government funds for Planned Parenthood.

    Federal Judge Sam Sparks of Austin, in a Feb. 21 ruling, blocked enforcement of a December decision by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to disqualify Planned Parenthood affiliates from participation in the state's Medicaid program.   • House votes to annul rule protecting Planned Parenthood

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- The U.S. House of Representatives acted Thursday (Feb. 16) to rescind a two-month-old rule from the Obama administration that effectively restricts states from prohibiting funds for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

    The House voted 230-188 for House Joint Resolution 43, which disapproves of the rule and renders it without effect. Representatives took the action under Congress' authority to review agency rulemaking -- in this case, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Read More
