  • CP tops $101M through six months, COVID-19 impact still unknown

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- While the financial impact of COVID-19 is still unknown, the SBC Executive Committee announced today that Cooperative Program giving in the SBC is above budget by 2.94 percent at the midpoint of the fiscal year. Contributions to SBC national and international missions and ministries totaled more than $15 million in March 2020 bringing the six-month national total to more than $101 million.

    As of March 31, gifts received by the EC for distribution through the CP Allocation Budget totaled $101,138,686.43. This exceeds last year's budget contribution of $100,736,376.81 by $402,309.62 or 0.4 percent. The amount given is above the $98,250,000.00 year-to-date budgeted projection to support Southern Baptist ministries globally and across North America by $2,888,686.43 or 2.94 percent. Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee voted Tuesday (Feb. 18) to create a study task force to "review the past and present activities" of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC).

    The ERLC is tasked with helping churches understand the moral demands of the Gospel and public policy as well as promoting religious liberty on behalf of Southern Baptists. The Executive Committee action (full text below) comes in response to "ongoing concerns" cited by EC members, state leaders and other Southern Baptists that the ERLC is not adequately fulfilling its Convention-approved ministry assignments.     GOODYEAR, Ariz. (BP) -- Five at a time, the members and friends of the two-year-old Church at Estrella boarded a SaberCat helicopter Jan. 19. In all, 105 people got a bird’s-eye view of the 20,000-acre Estrella Mountain Ranch planned community -- and caught a glimpse of a bigger vision.

    Started in 2004 with 1,500 homes, the community today has 6,000 homes and its first 22,000 residents, with plans to grow to 150,000 or more residents. Read More

    TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (BP) -- Bradfordville First Baptist Church voted unanimously Dec. 8 to increase its Cooperative Program giving to 10 percent in 2020. That's up from 1 percent the year Ronny Raines arrived six years ago as pastor.

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Giving through the Cooperative Program remains ahead of last year's pace by 2.58 percent as contributions to Southern Baptist Convention national and international missions and ministries totaled nearly $15 million in December 2019.

    As of December 31, gifts received by the EC for distribution through the CP Allocation Budget total $47,511,312.90. This exceeds last year's first quarter budget contribution of $46,315,254.71 by $1,196,058.19 or 2.58 percent. The amount given is slightly less than the $49,125,000.00 year to date budgeted projection to support Southern Baptist ministries globally and across North America by $1,613,687.10 or 3.28 percent.
