    BATON ROUGE, La. (BP) -- The time for a spiritual harvest has arrived, Louisiana Baptists were reminded during the 2017 LBC Annual Meeting Nov. 13-14 at Istrouma Baptist Church.

    Amid the largest statewide evangelism effort by Louisiana Baptists on record, 873 congregations have signed on through Nov. 15 to participate in a commitment to "pray for every home and share Christ with every person."

    After two years of developing a strategy, enlisting churches and piloting methods, a strong push will take place in 2018 for concentrated prayer and intentional soul-winning. The cooperative effort includes a diversity of mass evangelism strategies as well as one-on-one evangelism approaches: multi-church crusades, door-to-door outreach, one-on-one evangelism, single-church revivals and other activities which leverage compassion ministries to share about the love of Christ.     GRAMBLING, La. (BP) -- An early morning shooting Wednesday (Oct. 25) at Grambling State University -- that left two men dead, one of whom was a student at the school -- has prompted a call for prayer from Louisiana Baptist Convention Executive Director David Hankins.

    "The brokenness of our world sadly continues to be on display, as we learned from the shooting on the Grambling campus," Hankins told the Baptist Message. "Our hearts are grieved for the families of the victims. Read More

    NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- Standing in front of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's Leavell Chapel on graduation day, Tara Garcia looked back with fondness on her undergraduate experience. But unlike the graduates lined up beside her, Garcia earned her degree inside prison walls.

    Garcia completed every class except one prior to her release in January from the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women in St. Gabriel. Read More

  • La. Baptists highlight soul-winning emphasis

    ALEXANDRIA, La. (BP) -- During their annual meeting highlighting a statewide soul-winning emphasis for 2017-2018, Louisiana Baptists heard various ministry reports that included disaster relief efforts following record flooding in the state. And Louisiana messengers defeated a motion for a 2018 move toward a 50/50 Cooperative Program split with Southern Baptist Convention causes.

    Messengers also referred a motion regarding concerns with the SBC's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission to the Louisiana Baptist Convention's Executive Board. Approximately 600 messengers registered for the state convention's Nov. 14-15 meeting that was held at Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria. Read More
