  RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Most of the 56 missionaries the International Mission Board honored May 2 upon their retirement from full-time overseas service to emeritus status in the U.S. didn't start out as pastors or ministers on church staffs.

  Most were church members from diverse career fields who felt called to spread the Gospel around the world: an accounting clerk, advertising manager, attorney, beef producer, carpenters, critical care nurse, environmental control chemist, funeral home chaplain, house parents in a children's home, insurance agents, librarian, maintenance workers, physician, psychologist, radio announcer, rehabilitation counselor, teachers, truck driver and social workers.   RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- As soon as I heard news about the earthquake in Nepal, I immediately thought of the people I met and the faces I saw just over a year ago, when I was walking on trails and sides of mountains in the area where the quake hit.

  As I thought of the massive physical need that was already there on top of the massive spiritual need, and realized that an earthquake of this magnitude would have devastating effects across the region, I was drawn immediately to my knees.   BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- A "security threat" against International Mission Board President David Platt's Secret Church event April 24 forced Platt's Radical ministry to move the simulcast from The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Ala., to an undisclosed alternate location just hours before it began.

  The threat was a small taste of what "our brothers and sisters in Christ experience in other countries," Platt, former pastor of The Church at Brook Hills, said as the event opened according The Alabama Baptist. Threats cannot stop God's church and His Word from accomplishing their purposes, Platt noted, and that all attempts to hinder the church ultimately help spread the Gospel more. Read More
