  NASHVILLE (BP) -- The collision of fear and mistrust has driven the violence upon violence that killed two black civilians and five police officers in three separate states in as many days, Southern Baptist pastor Lee Wesley told Baptist Press.

  "There is a fear on the part of police officers when they go into the black community, and that fear heightens their approach to these problems," said Wesley, whose pastorate Community Bible Baptist Church is in Baton Rouge, La., where two white police officers pinned Alton Sterling nearly immobile and shot him dead in a parking lot early July 5.   FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Although Emily Mitchell was excited to participate in this year's Crossover evangelism efforts in St. Louis, she often found herself feeling discouraged and, at times, even inferior.

  Mitchell has only been active in church for about two years, with God calling her to join a congregation one year and to ministry the next. She just completed her first year in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's master's in Christian education program, but struggled with feeling inadequate in sharing her faith compared to other Southwestern students and faculty.   CENTRAL ASIA (BP) -- Noor,* a Muslim-background believer in Central Asia, has been praying with a heart like Simeon's for many years.

  "You know that story in the Bible when Simeon sees Jesus and says that he can now die in peace?" Noor asked. "I want God to let me see a church in my heart language before I die. That would be my Simeon moment," he said.

• Missouri Baptist Foundation appeal turned down

  JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (BP) -- The Missouri Court of Appeals has denied a motion by the Missouri Baptist Foundation to reconsider its ruling that the foundation return trustee governance to the Missouri Baptist Convention.

  The July 5 ruling affirmed a unanimous three-judge panel's ruling May 24 to return the foundation to the Missouri convention after 15 years of control by a self-appointed, self-perpetuating board. The foundation motion asked for a rehearing before all 11 judges of the Western District Court of Appeals in Kansas City. Read More

No es mi culpa que mis antepasados hayan oprimido a otros o haber nacido con privilegios por ser blanco. Está mal que esto sucedió y lo lamento muchísimo, pero no sé qué hacer para remediar lo que otros hicieron. Me siento juzgado por mi color de piel y esto es algo de lo que yo no tengo nada que ver. No me parece correcto que por mi color se determine mi valor o quién soy". Estas son las palabras que uno de mis estudiantes en el seminario dijo durante una conversación sobre el racismo en una de mis clases. Read More
